Gratitude Enhances Your Life In 7 Ways

I came across this article on the site The Palm Beach Post, and it reinforces the power of gratitude by citing related scientific studies. Here are the 7 ways gratitude can enhance your life ...

  • Boosts Your Mood
  • Strengthens Your Relationship
  • Helps You Become More Resilient
  • Improves Your Academic Performance
  • Fights Depression
  • Helps You Become More Goal-Oriented
  • Boosts Your Social Status

That said, check out the article ... Giving thanks: Seven ways gratitude is good for you

One of the take-aways from the article has to do with the process of maintaining a gratitude journal. It stated that when writing into the journal, you transform your "perception of reality from one of scarcity to one of abundance". And when you start looking at life that way, you will cease to feel like a victim of circumstance and be able to claim your power over your life. Isn't it better to create your own success in an abundant universe rather than compete in a universe with short supply?

Upping Our Positive Vibration (aka Frequency)

Teal Scott, a spiritualist, describes why it's important to raise our frequency. And moreover, she shows us how to do it. She explains that our emotions (i.e., our biochemical feedback system) reflects back to us what our vibration is at that instant. Our frequency can range from positive to negative, and we determine whether a vibration is negative or positive by how we feel about it. Positive vibrations make us feel good, whereas negative vibrations just the opposite. High frequency = good, and low frequency = bad. Therefore, we must focus on raising our vibration. Things which causes us to feel better (if only a bit better) raises our vibration (i.e., frequency). Raising our vibration also determines what we are attracting or repelling ... think the Law of Attraction. Teal also provides a list of ways to raise one's frequency.

Check out this video from Teal Scott, who provides a ton of valuable information about making you a better you ...

Second Chances

There's a favorite episode of mine from the TV show called Dr. Who. The episode is called Vincent and the Doctor, and the underlying theme of mental health issues was raised in that show. Vincent van Gogh, a world-famous artist, struggled with mental health issues, which eventually took his life. Anyways, long story short, the Doctor and his companion (Amy Pond) travels in time and connects with van Gogh. Though the Doctor knows the outcome, Amy Pond tries her best to try and change history so that van Gogh will continue to live without committing suicide. Here's that scene in the episode where the Doctor and Amy takes Vincent to the van Gogh exhibit at the famous French museum, the Musee d'Orsay. There Vincent is showered with praise and overwhelmed at all the positive vibes he absorbs. Check-out this  video which includes the famous "speech" by the museum's art curator, Doctor Black, who spoke words of adoration about van Gogh. For Vincent, who was misunderstood and unappreciated in his own time, that museum experience was definitely an uplifting gift from the Doctor and Amy.

The background music was performed by the group Athlete and song titled "Chances" ... a nice song for that scene. Going forward ... did you see the Dr. Who 50th anniversary special? I did, and I was pleasantly surprised. Really loved the interaction between the three Doctors, and the theme of redemption in that TV movie. All those years the Doctor harbored and struggled with the guilt of wiping out two races, his own people and the race called the Daleks, for the good and peace of the entire universe. However, in the 50th anniversary episode, something very special happens. Anyways, I don't want to spill out any spoilers for those who haven't watched it yet.

We all would love second chances. Second chances at righting a wrong, second chances at romance or a relationship, and so on. Sometimes we're lucky, and we get the opportunity to redeem ourselves. But in reality, we can't go back in time and fix things, though I bet we all had a burning desire at one point in our lives that if we could, we'd go back in time and do the "right" thing.

Life goes on, and we should not dwell in the past. You don't want additional stressors in your life, right? Live in the moment, be around people and things that will edify you, and picture your ideal future by setting realistic goals.

Keeping Your Mind And Body Revved Up

The mind and body connection is something we should embrace, and not ignore as some new age hocus-pocus. And moreover, improving your mind and your body is like a two-way street. A healthy mind can empower your body, and a healthy body can empower your mind. Heck, even the world famous Cleveland Clinic talks about the profound effect of the mind-body connection. Hard to top that, huh? Okay ... moving along. It has been shown in medical research that getting quality hours of sleep improves that mind-body connection. Here are two more tips ...

Exercise If You Care About Your Mind And Body

Yeah, yeah ... you've heard this a million times, right? I hear you ... and it's easier said than done, right? But there's no question that exercise is a great way to improve your mind and body. Some people exercise 5 days a week, while others ... the weekend warriors ... just on Saturdays and Sundays. For me, I like to exercise 3 days a week with intensity, and on my rest days I try to keep a bit active ... my weekends are reserved for some fun and relaxation with my wife, for example, shopping at the local farmer's market for fresh fruits and veggies and looking for whole-in-the-wall places.

And to raise your exercise experience to another level, try the nasal breathing technique while working out. It will take some time getting comfortable with it, however, there's a ton of benefits you can reap from it.

Bottom line, exercise is good for your mind and body, and as those endorphins are released, you'll be in that "feel good" zone. And as an added benefit, you'll start to look good and will be able to manage your stress levels more effectively.

Practice Positive Self-Talk If You Care About Your Mind And Body

Do you talk to yourself sometimes? Whether it's verbally or mentally, I hope they are positive ones. Negative self-talk is bad news for your mind. It can then affect your emotions and your body in a negative manner. Can you imagine exercising while telling yourself that you hate to exercise? Anyways, you see my point.

You can use positive self-talk or affirmations to help cultivate that healthy living mindset. Positive self-talk are short statements that encourage and guide your mind and body, while you are working on attaining your goals and improving on your strengths and shortcomings. Use affirmations throughout your day to keep focused, and motivate yourself to create and maintain that healthy mind and body you deserve!

Here are examples of positive self-talk ...

  • I will exercise regularly and keep active
  • I am committed to being healthy and active
  • My body will receive ample rest and exercise
  • My healthy lifestyle positively affects those around me
  • I will remove bad habits with good food, exercise and healthy living

When you use the tips discussed today and on the previous blog post, you will begin to realize that it's not that hard living a healthy lifestyle. That is, once you are aware of the appropriate set of tools to improve your mind and body.

The Cheesecake Factory - A Lesson In Selfless Gratititude

Do you like cheesecake? If you do, then welcome to the club ... I love them, too! I live close to the Waikiki Cheesecake Factory, but never had a meal there. Shame on me, right? However, I did have their cheesecakes ... yum. And you know what makes this Cheesecake Factory special? Well, it's the busiest Cheesecake Factory in the world,  serving 4,000 customers on a daily basis! Wowsers, huh? However, just about a month ago, the restaurant had a fire, causing 2.5 million dollars in damage, and a 3-week closure due to the damages. And that being said, there were 400 employees out of a job for the three weeks while repairs were being done to the Waikiki restaurant. I bet the restaurant lost a ton of money while it was closed for three weeks, in addition to absorbing all the expenses for the repairs. But the most remarkable thing about this story is the fact that Cheesecake Factory paid all 400 employees for the three weeks they were out. That's 3 weeks of paid wages to 400 employees while the restaurant was being repaired. I think that's a pretty awesome gesture of selfless gratitude! All I can say is ... bravo Cheesecake Factory!
